Best blinds for a west-facing room that gets afternoon heat?
Our living room faces west and gets brutal sun from about 3 to 7. We want to cut the heat and glare but still see the yard. What works best?

West-facing windows take the hardest hit from late-day sun, so you want something that stops heat at the glass. Cellular (honeycomb) shades are our first pick. The air pockets insulate, and a light-filtering or blackout fabric noticeably cuts heat gain. If keeping the view matters most, solar shades with 3 to 5 percent openness block most UV and glare while you can still see out. Darker solar fabrics give the clearest view, while lighter fabrics reflect more heat. Plantation shutters are a great long-term option too. Whatever you choose, a white or light backing facing the window helps reflect heat, and putting the shades on a schedule lets them close before the afternoon peak.
